History and Richness
East Harlem has historically seen the largest influx of immigrants since the early part of the 1900's. This mixed residential and commercial community has been a true melting pot within Manhattan. Museum mile and Central Park border the west while the River borders the east, which includes the promenade as well as the pedestrian bridge to the beautiful Randall and Ward Islands. The southern portion used to be as far south as 92nd street and has seemed to hover around 97th street for the past few decades. The northern border makes a sharp turn into 5th avenue and 142nd street. This community is vibrant and full of culture. There are many restaurants with food from Puerto Rico, Pakistan, Mexico, French, American, Cuban, Indian, Dominican, to name a few.
Somali Restaurant ( a little more into central Harlem, but walking distance and worth it)
.... way more restaurants than there is room to list. You should come and explore for yourself.
